Your Decision Making Process Matters!
Have you ever been stuck making a decision? When you can’t see your way through the problem, or worse it seems all options are equally poor? I have. I imagine we all have. Sometimes making the right decision seems tough! And with big issues that’s okay. There’s nothing wrong with taking the time to make the best choice. But there’s a difference between taking time to make an educated decision and getting stuck in the decision making process.
Often indecisiveness comes from fear. Fear of making the wrong choice or fear of change. When this happens it becomes easier to avoid the decision than make it. The irony is, failure to decide is a decision! You’re choosing not to choose. It’s one of the methods your subconscious mind uses to maintain your status quo.
The best way I’ve discovered to overcome this is to train your unconscious mind that decisions are good. You can Do This by consciously making small decisions. Instead of going through your day on autopilot, pay attention to the small choices you have. Then choose between the options. Minor choices aren’t stressful because the consequences are minute. But the fact that you’re making a choice matters! It trains your unconscious mind by imbuing decision making skills.
As you make more conscious decisions you create the habit of choosing. And you know that repetition strengthens habits. In time your subconscious mind begins to understand that decisions are good. This unconscious knowledge loosens inhibitions to making bigger choices. You’ll discover that making big decisions gets easier and easier!
But there’s more to effective decision making than training yourself to make big decisions…
Did you know you’re making thousands of unconscious decisions every day? And some are very important. Every subconscious choice cascades through your life like ripples on a pond. Some can even act like the lose bit of snow that starts an avalanche, wreaking havoc and destruction.
You might wonder, “If my subconscious is making decisions…how do I know they’re the right ones?” It’s your subconscious! It’s outside your awareness. You don’t know what it’s thinking. Sometimes you might seriously wonder though… But your unconscious mind doesn’t ask what you think is best. It doesn’t care what you consciously want. It’s a power unto itself, doing what it thinks best, regardless of your opinion!
So how do you control your unconscious decision making process? The truth is you can’t. You cannot tell your subconscious mind what to do, how to think, or how to behave.
But you can influence it!
Your subconscious mind draws from all the information you see, read, hear, feel, even the thoughts you have regularly. Everything you experience, how you feel about it, and what you do as a result gets stored in your subconscious mind. When it’s time to make a decision, your subconscious uses that information to make its choice.
That means, if you’re unhappy with something in your life, you must start by changing what you’re feeding your mind! Feed your mind good things, things that align with your dreams and goals! When you do this consistently it creates a new unconscious knowledge base that your mind will use to make choices.
