Does Your Mind-Body Connection Matter?

Share

How Does Your Mind Body Connection Matter?

Many people are really disconnected with what’s going on with their body, especially when going to the gym. The problem with that is, if you’re unaware of what’s going on with your body, how can you know what your body is trying to tell you?

Your Body Speaks to You

Your body is trying to give you messages all the time; about what it needs, what you can do for it, how it can serve you, and how you can better serve it.

When it comes to understanding the mind-body connection, one of the best ways you can start developing that is through daily meditation.

The power of meditation

To meditate: Pick a comfortable spot. Sit down and relax. Close your eyes and begin paying attention to your breath. Feel it as you breathe in deeply. Feel tension leave your body as you exhale slowly. Keep repeating this process. As you’re relaxing you can use a mantra. One of my favorites is RAM, pronounced “rum”.  As you inhale, think or say, “RAM” and as you exhale, think or say, “RAM”. Keep doing this as you relax more and more.

As you are doing this, feel your energy and attention go to your feet. Notice your feet. Feel them. Feel the pulse in your feet. Feel your socks, if you’re wearing them. Feel your shoes, if you’re wearing them. Feel the floor under your feet. Notice all the sensations around your feet.

Then shift your attention up to your calves and shins. Allow yourself to notice everything going on in and with that area of your body. Feel the clothing or the air or the furniture, against your skin. Notice, are they warm or are they cool? Are they feeling relaxed? Are they feeling energized? Allow yourself to notice these things. Really let the energy come into your awareness.

Do this with your whole body. Shift your attention up into your quads and hamstrings, then into your glutes, and into your lower back. Spend a few seconds at each area allowing yourself to really feel and connect with that part of your body. Then move to your abdomen, your chest, your back, your arms, your hands, and finally up into your face and head. Go through the whole process every time you meditate, noticing and connecting with every part or your body.

As you do this over a couple of weeks, you’ll begin to start to develop an awareness of what’s really going on in your body. Developing your body awareness through meditation will allow the awareness to carry into your day-to-day life.

While sitting, watching a video or reading this or just relaxing, you can place your energy on your hand. You might feel your hand tingling. You can notice your pulse beating in your hand. You might notice your hand growing warmer. You can just notice these things.

Focus your attention on the muscle being worked

You can also practice while you’re at the gym by placing your attention on the muscle group your working. If you’re doing a curl, you can notice the tension on your biceps. Really feel your biceps contracting. Focus your attention on making your biceps contract as hard as you can at the top of the movement. Allow yourself to put your mind in the muscle. The more you do this, the more you can really control where you’re expending your energy the most.

Regardless of your sport or your choice of exercise, you can learn to place your attention on the group of muscles that are required to properly execute movements for optimal results.

As you learn to do this more and more, you’ll begin to develop the ability to know what your body is telling you it needs. Your body will communicate if it needs more rest and recovery, if it needs more nutrition, even if it wants you to exercise harder than you have been. You’ll learn how to know what your body is telling you and what it needs.

Your mind controls everything about your body and your life. If you’re failing to get the results that you want, it’s because there’s something in your thinking that needs to be fine-tuned.

I Don’t Have Time to Work Out!

Share

Have You Ever Thought You Don’t Have Enough Time to Work Out?

I used to too! There were points in my life when I was so busy that I thought there was no way I could ever work out. Then I changed my thinking and now finding time to exercise is easy!

Do you ever feel like you have no time to exercise?

Do you ever find yourself feeling like you have no time to exercise? That there’s too much to be done, you’ve got deadlines, things you’ve got to get done, people expecting things done at certain times? And you don’t know how you can get everything done in your time-frame. Let alone take a few minutes here and there to take care of yourself.

There’s a huge problem with that thinking!

You’ve got to take care of yourself. And you’ve got to start taking care of yourself now because when you stop taking care of yourself physically, your body begins falling apart. If you’re failing to take care of your body, you’re cheating yourself out of both a high quality of life and the energy to do the things you want and need to do.

There is a direct correlation between how well you take care of yourself and how much energy you have to be a high achiever, to be productive, to accomplish the things you want to accomplish, and to do all the things you want to do. Because of that, the only way to enjoy a high quality of life and high energy levels is to take care of your body.

There's a direct correlation between how well you take care of yourself and how much energy you have

If you ever find yourself thinking that there’s just not enough time to work out, then remember that working out doesn’t have to be going to the gym for 60 or 90 minutes. Working out doesn’t have to be done during a set time frame.

If you’re at a place in your life or with your career, where it’s really hard to find that time. Then I recommend finding ways to steal little blocks of time throughout the day where you can get some exercise in. You can do a quick set of push-ups, a set of crunches, even a set of body weight squats. If you have the will you will find a way. I used to do pull-ups on the bar between the stalls in the public restroom where I worked. Was that ideal? No! But I was determined and it was much better than doing nothing. Then I bought my own pull-up stand and put it in my office where I could do pull-ups when I had 5 to 10 minutes to spare, usually 4 times a day.

The Real Question is, “How Much Do You Want to Be Healthy?”

Think about it. How much do you want to be fit? How badly do you want the high quality of life that only comes from taking care of yourself physically, from treating your body respectfully? Your body was designed to be in motion. The human body was never designed to be sedentary. That’s how bodies start falling apart.

What are you doing about it?

If you feel like you haven’t the time to work out, then I challenge you to find 5 minutes, 3 or 4 times a day, where you can do something quick and intense. This will help you start having the health and fitness that you deserve in your life. It will allow you to start having the high quality of life that you certainly deserve!

What Does “Get Your Mind Right & Your Body Will Follow” Really Mean

Share

Get Your Mind Right and Your Body Will Follow!

What does it mean to get your mind right and your body will follow?

Your unconscious mind, most people call it your subconscious mind, is the primary driver in your life. It’s the thing that controls 90% to 95% of your actions. Any time that you are unaware of what you’re doing, that you’re going by reflex…That’s your unconscious mind. Any time that you fail to get the results that you consciously want, and that you consciously know that you’re capable of, that’s also your unconscious mind.

Your Unconscious Mind is The Primary Driver in Your Life

So, when I say “Get Your Mind Right.” It means:

Do What You Need to Do to Get Your Unconscious Mind Aligned with Your Conscious Desire to Have Success in Any Given Area of Your Life.

When it comes to your health and fitness; once you get your unconscious mind aligned with your health and your fitness goals, you’re going to start seeing some amazing results. And you’re going to start seeing them really quickly. It may still take some time to get to where you want to be as your end goal or your primary objective at this moment, and getting your unconscious mind on-board will cut out the things like self-sabotage. It will cut out the negative thoughts you night have around your health and your fitness. It’ll cut out the beliefs that are failing to support your health and your fitness.

Get Your Mind Right - It's like Turbo Charging Your Mind!

Simply: It’s like turbo charging your mind when it comes to getting your health and your fitness to where you want it to be. So learn how to turbo charge your mind. Learn how to get your mind right and then your body will follow!

One of the best things you can do to start that is, every night as you’re drifting off to sleep, spend ten minutes visualizing yourself with your health and your fitness exactly how you want it to be. When I say visualizing yourself, what I mean specifically is; as you lay there, when you are relaxed and getting ready to go to sleep at night, you can imagine that you are seeing yourself—through your own eyes—in the condition and with the health that you want to have. See it through your own eyes. Hear everything. Feel everything. Be completely aware and involved in this exercise as you drift off to sleep. And just imagine yourself living your perfect day with your perfect health and your perfect fitness that you want.

Do this for ten to fifteen days. It might be a little hard at first but you’ll figure it out and it will get easier, and easier, and easier as you do it more and more.

So give this a try!

Every night; start visualizing yourself with your perfect health, your perfect fitness, living the perfect day that those allow you to have and watch what starts to happen.

Always remember. Get Your Mind Right and Your Body Will Follow!

What is a Mind, Body, Fitness Coach?

Share

What is a Mind, Body, Fitness Coach?

You might wonder, “What is a mind, body, fitness coach?” What’s up with that? There seem to be coaches for everything these days, from life coach to success coach, to almost anything you can think of…

What a mind, body, fitness coach is, what I do is help people start winning the mental game of fitness. Why is that important?

Everything, all the results you get in your life, everything that you’re experiencing in life, starts with your thoughts, with your mind. If the results that you’re getting—with your health and fitness—are different from what you want, if they are failing to match up with what you want your results to be, then that’s because there’s something in your mind, your thinking, that needs to be changed, to be fine-tuned, adjusted, modified in some way.

For long term health and fitness, you must address your whole mind

What I do is help you get to the point where everything that’s going on in your conscious and unconscious mind matches what you want. When that happens, you can start getting the results that you want!

Your unconscious mind is what’s driving the show. 90% to 95% of everything that you do every day comes from your unconscious mind. Understanding that makes it easy to see that if your unconscious mind isn’t completely aligned with what you want consciously, your results are going to differ from your desires. Simply put, your unconscious mind wins. And that means that regardless of your conscious desires, you get the results that your unconscious mind thinks are best for you.

For clarity, let’s agree that unconscious mind and subconscious mind are the same things. They both refer to all of the thinking that goes on out of your awareness.

If a person has champion thinking, then they’re going to get champion results.

When You Have Champion Thinking, You Will Get Champion Level Results!

Likewise, if a person’s thinking is mediocre, they’re going to get mediocre results.

Change Your Thinking, Change Your Results!

We want to get your thinking where it needs to be for you to get the results that you want with your health and your fitness!

If your health and fitness is currently different from how you want it to be:

  • If you know there’s room for improvement
  • If you know that you could have more energy
  • If you know that you could experience a higher quality of life physically
  • If you know that your productivity could go up and be increased by having more energy, more stamina, more zest for life

Then it means that there is currently something going on in your unconscious mind that is failing to support the goals, the aspirations that you have consciously. And that’s okay because we can get you where you want to be.

That’s what I do. Using behavioral engineering, I get people from where they are to where they want to be by helping them engineer their behaviors and thinking to get the results that they want.

If for any reason, with your health and fitness, you’re failing to get the results that you know you can get and that you want, or even if you’ve had the results you wanted in the past but for some reason you just aren’t motivated anymore or are trapped on that fitness yo-yo, we can fix that. We can help get you to the point where you have the motivation, the desire, the drive necessary for long-term, sustainable health and fitness. We can help you create the mindset necessary to experience long-term, sustainable health and fitness in your life. Once your mind is onboard with the results that you consciously want, you’re going to get those results.

I will help you get the results that you want with your health and your fitness, long-term. When that happens, you can start having the quality of life and the time that comes with that. What happens when our energy is low? It takes us longer to do things. Time is a really valuable resource. When it takes us ten times longer to do things than it should, because we’re lacking the energy and stamina that come from great health and fitness, that’s a lot of wasted time!

You’ll Never Get Back Wasted Time!

When you get your energy dialed in, when you get your health and fitness where it needs to be, and you start taking more control of your time! You start getting more motivation, you start being able to enjoy life more!

When we’re working together, we’ll help you get to the place where you can experience that wonderful quality of life physically, which creates a wonderful quality of life in all areas.

Your body is your temple. Are you taking care of your temple? Are you doing the things that you need to do so that you have a wealth of energy and stamina and productivity and passion and joy in all areas of life?

If your health and fitness and your energy and stamina are things that you could improve, then send me a private message or an email and let’s talk to see what we can do for you.

When to Double Down on Your Health and Fitness

Share

Why You Must Double Down on Your Health and Fitness!

I was taking to a good friend just a few minutes ago about the times when we feel like taking it easy or the times we feel like taking a break. And that reminded me of when I used to do bodyweight exercises all the time because with bodyweight exercise especially, as with all exercises and truly all areas of life, you can workout every day, doing the same exercise, if you want too. The trick is, you adjust your intensity every day. Someone who runs can run every single day. There are days when it makes sense to run harder, to push yourself more and there are days when it makes sense to be easier and have a relaxed, healing kind of a run.

Same thing with working out. There are times when you can blitz the bodypart(s) you’re working and there are times when you can take it easier. I worked legs really hard and have jelly-legs as I record this video. The weak feeling that anyone who works out really hard knows, when you have to grip the handrail for dear life when walking down stairs to keep from falling.

When you feel like taking a break, it's time to double sown on your health and fitness!

After that workout I decided to go have some nature time. I’m out here enjoying this gorgeous scene and I was talking to my friend on the phone and we were talking about how sometimes people say they want to take it easy. Coaching clients will say, “I just need to take a break.”

That’s When You’ve Got to Double Down!

When you feel like you need to take a break, that’s when you’ve got to double down because pushing through the resistance, that’s what’s going to help you bust out to the next level!

Pushing through those times where you’re thinking, “I just really don’t feel like it.” Or, “I don’t want to do it.” Or whatever other excuse your mind throws out at you… Those are the times you’ve got to completely and totally double down on it! Get your butt going where you need to go! Get yourself doing what you need to do! Find a way to push through it!

And pushing through it can be taking it easy in the sense that you are working out more gently than you would otherwise but you’re still there! You’re still showing up!

Showing Up Makes a Massive Difference!

Showing up makes a massive difference because showing up tells your unconscious mind how important it is for you to do what you’re doing!

When you show up on the days when you feel like skipping or during the months that maybe you feel like skipping, when you show up now, more and more during those times, you’re programming your grey matter that that’s a non-negotiable. That you are going to go and do the work. That you’re going to put yourself in the situation. That you’re going to grow your way through it.

The people who are on the fitness yo-yo; those who go until they reach the edge of their comfort zone and then they stop exercising until they reach the bottom of their comfort zone—when they are fed up with their lack of fitness—and then they start getting in shape again… And on and on and on they go, bouncing within the walls of their comfort zone. They are always in that narrow window of growth.

To break through that window, to break through to the other side, to get the true success and the long-term health and fitness, you have got to push yourself to show up on the times when you feel like you want to take a break! Even showing up in a way that’s gentle on your body is still showing up.

Sometimes you just have to remember that doing something smaller is way more important than skipping. If it’s a scheduled day, if it’s a planned day, if you have a workout that you’re supposed to be doing, regardless of the type of workout, if it’s your day to workout and you feel like taking a break… I strongly suggest that you SHOW UP ANYWAY!
