How to Push Yourself Harder When Working Out

Share

How to Push Yourself Harder While Working Out

I want to share a secret with you that will help you get more out of yourself when you’re working out or exercising.

You know what it’s like when you’re going along and you hit the wall, where you feel like you can’t do anymore? Maybe you feel like your pump is too much to push out one more rep or you’re just too tired to push yourself through and go that extra mile while you’re hiking or jogging?

You know what it's like when you're going along and you hit that wall?

That’s a tough place to be. You know the results you want are on the other side of the discomfort or pain that you’re feeling and at the same time it can be very hard to push through pain or discomfort, even when you know what you want is on the other side.

When or if you find yourself wanting to quit and you know you must continue to get the results you want, here’s a secret you can use starting today to push yourself harder and get even more from your workouts and exercise.

Imagine That You Float Out of Your Body and Up Above Yourself, So You Are Watching Yourself do the Exercise.

What’s that like and why does it work?

Allowing your awareness to float out of your body and up above yourself in the air, while you watch yourself do those last couple of reps or push through that last mile, is called dissociation. It allows you to get away from the physical discomforts that are going on in your body. By getting away from those discomforts, you’ll find that you can push yourself harder than you thought you could push yourself. And as you know, being able to push yourself harder is what allows you to get the growth you want.

Float your awareness out of your body

If all you ever do is go to where it’s uncomfortable or where it starts to be uncomfortable and then stop, then you’re cheating yourself out of maximal growth—that’s on the other side—because you’ve trained yourself to stop when it gets tough. Stopping when it gets tough is a great path to mediocrity! You’re better than that!

You’ve Got to Push Through the Discomfort!

You’ve got to push through the pain!

You’ve got to get yourself to a point where you’re growing beyond what you used to hold yourself accountable for or capable of!

So next time you’re exercising or working out and you find yourself in a situation where you’re just not sure whether you can push out that next rep or push yourself through to go the extra distance that you know you really want to go, try that trick! Allow your awareness to float out of your body, up above yourself, and look down and imagine that you’re watching yourself do the exercise or do the reps.

Give this a shot and let me know how well it works for you.

Why People Fail And How To Use Failure to Grow

Share

Why People Fail

Before we get into that, let’s discuss, “What is Failure?” Because when you think of the statement, “Why People Fail.” You’re most likely thinking of failure as a horrible result—where the person gets the worst outcome that could possibly happen from the efforts that they’re putting in.

It’s true, that’s one kind of failure. That’s a massive failure. And it happens.

There’s another kind of failure to notice and be aware of.  And that’s the type of failure that happens all the time. It’s the failure that’s a definite and necessary part of the learning process because we can never learn how to do something if we aren’t failing.

When we try something and it works out differently that how we’d expected, that’s a failure.

Right?

How To Use Failure To Grow

You take the results you got. You figure out what part is working and you keep that. The parts that weren’t working you throw out. Then figure out what you need to do differently, and start either over or build on it. It’s taking what works, remembering it, learning from it, and letting go of the rest.

When someone experiences a normal failure that’s a part of the learning process. That’s okay! That’s just part of the gig. That’s how we learn. That’s how we grow! And when we are learning and growing, then failure’s okay.

Failure is part of the normal learning process.

What about the other failure though, the type of failure that happens when people totally self-destruct? Or when everything falls apart? Or something goes horribly wrong and just totally off the rails?

That’s failure’s a problem. That’s a real problem. There are opportunities to learn from that. You have the ability to take what worked and run with it, and grow and build and figure out what you can do differently next time. And there’s also your ability to completely throw it out and start over. Your ability to be the phoenix rising from the ashes—of your life or the event or whatever happened.

What Causes Massive Failure?

That kind of failure though… The massive failure. That kind of failure comes from a mindset that’s unsupportive of what the person is trying to do. It comes across in things like self-sabotage. That type of failure comes around when the unconscious mind is completely unsupportive of what the conscious mind is trying to do. It can also happen when the unconscious mind forgot to unlearn something that it learned in the past, something that seemed to make sense when it learned it but now isn’t working. And maybe it never worked!

Sometimes, our unconscious minds, learn how to do stuff that never really works. But it fills a need and it’s what we know. So we run with it. The way to overcome that kind of failure is to master your mindset, to start doing things that help support your goals, support your dreams, and support the results you want.

We control our efforts 100

We have no ability to control the results we’re getting. But we can control our efforts 100%. And when our efforts are amazing and they’re brilliantly building on what we want to do, then the results are going to come.

We may get the results we want. We may get better results than we want. It’s our job to make sure we have the mindset necessary to get the results we truly desire. And the way to do that is to start paying attention to what you’re thinking.

How To Overcome an Unsupportive Mindset

This is one of the very first steps. Pay attention to your thoughts. Do your thoughts support what you want? Or are you tearing yourself down? Are you your own worst critic? Or are you your best cheerleader?

It’s good to notice what you’re doing that’s working and what you’re doing that isn’t working. It’s great to give yourself feedback and to get feedback from other people. As you know, there’s a difference between giving yourself positive, critical feedback and being critical of yourself.

What are you doing? How do you talk to yourself?

If you were walking down the street and you heard someone talking to a friend, a loved one, or a stranger the way you talk to yourself… What would you think?

What would you think if you heard someone talking to another person the way you talk to yourself_

Consider that for a moment…

What would you think if you heard someone else talking to another person the way you talk to yourself?

That’s what I want you to work on this week. Pay attention to how you talk to yourself. Start noticing, what you say, how you say it, and the emotions that are driving it.

Always remember, you are the master of your destiny!

Why You Must Ask Better Questions

Share

Let’s Talk About The Questions You’re Asking Yourself.

What kind of questions do you ask yourself when something goes differently than how you wanted?

If something works out poorly or something random happens that really kind of sucks… What do you ask about it? What do you think? What are you doing with the event? What kind of questions are you asking?

That can make or break you as far as the results you’re getting from life!

I used to ask some horrible questions. And I mean, HORRIBLE QUESTIONS! I would ask things like, “Why me?”

“Why does this happen to me?”

You know what? There’s nothing good that comes from a question like that.

“Why does this always happen?” Is another favorite that people ask. And you know what? It’s a crap question!

So, “Why me?”, “Why does this happen to me?” Let’s replace questions like that.

Ask Better Questions

Any question that puts you in a victim mindset, needs to be gotten rid of.

Start asking yourself questions like:

  • “What else could this mean?”
  • “How can I use this to make myself a better person?”
  • “How can I use this to actively improve the lives of others?”
  • “What’s the good in this?”
  • “What’s the positive message here?”

You may or may not have heard about the motorcycle accident I had going on 7 years ago now. I was pulling onto the freeway, going about 55mph when I got sideswiped by a minivan. About 150ft of tumbling down the freeway later, laying there, once I figured out that I was in one piece and that I was still alive… The very first question that I asked was, “I wonder what the lesson in this is and I wonder who it’s for?”

And because I had trained myself to think that way, and to ask those kind of questions when stuff happens, what could have been an absolutely horrendous event turned into just something that happened.

Yeah, it sucked! I was beat up. I hurt for weeks afterward. But you know what? I was ok. I was alive. I could think. I had all my mental faculties. My body, except for a couple of minor inconveniences, was really okay.

I remember it like it was yesterday

If I would have asked different questions, then who knows what would have happened. I guarantee it wouldn’t have been the positive outcome that’s come from it. I use that as a teaching tool. I use it as a way to help people understand how powerful they are, how powerful their minds are and how powerful their outlook on life is.

What kind of questions do you ask yourself? When something happens that goes differently than what you want, are you asking yourself questions that have you thinking in a victim mindset or—and this is what I highly recommend—are you asking yourself questions that get you thinking about things like:

  •  “What’s the good in this?”
  • “How can I use this to help others?”
  • “How can I use this to make my life better?”
  • “What’s the lesson in here?”
  • “How can this be something that I can turn into a positive influence in my life?”

Questions like that, they’re going to get you firmly onto the path of mastering your mindset.

And always remember:

You Are The Master of Your Destiny!

What is Your Mindset and Why Does it Matter?

Share

Mindset Mastery Series

What is Your Mindset and Why Does Your Mindset Matter?

Your mindset is the prevailing mental attitude you have about that particular area of your life. There are many times when we want to achieve something, we want to get great results but for some reason we keep getting tripped up or we keep falling down or things just aren’t working out the way that we wanted them to.

I used to have that happen a lot. It used to be absolutely maddening. I would have these grand visions, these dreams and desires and things where I felt, “YES! I’ve gotta make that happen!” And then it would never seem to come to pass.

When I started effectively achieving my goals

It wasn’t until I started mastering my mindset that I was able to start achieving the goals and achieving the results that I wanted… because mastering your mindset is what allows you to take consistent action. Mastering your mindset is what allows you to move forward consistently, to move forward and just annihilate any obstacles that might be in your way. To annihilate, to jump over, to plow through, to learn from. Really, that’s what obstacles are…things we need to learn our way over, through, or around. When an obstacle comes up, it just means there’s something that we’ve got to figure out to get past it. But when you have a mindset, that’s a powerful and strong mindset, you will be able to take the action necessary to learn what you need to learn and to get through and to move over and get around and just bypass any of the obstacles that might be coming up. if you have a more fragile mindset, or if you have a mindset that is based in a victim mentality, then that’s when those obstacles can be brick walls. And they can end up stopping you from getting the results you want.

The Body Emotion Connection

Probably the best way to demonstrate that is to tell you a story about my mindset and how it used to be in relation to my health and fitness goals.

Throughout most of my life, when it came to working out, I was like this.Exercise Consistency in Past I would go great and I’d be making excellent gains. And then something would happen and I would just crash and fall off. Then a little while later I’d start working out again. The way it would happen is I would miss a workout or I’d miss two workouts–for whatever reason, it could have been that I went on vacation, it could have been that I was sick, whatever the reason was–if I missed a couple of workouts I would think that everyone in the gym was thinking bad things about me, that they were being critical about me, that they were being judgmental about the fact that I’d missed the workouts. And then I would use that as justification to create anxiety about going to the gym…

There were times where I would pull up in front of the gym in the morning and I would sit there in my car. I would have this battle raging inside. “I want to go in! I want to workout! But what is so-and-so going to think and what is so-and-so going to think?” And they’re going to know that I wasn’t working out, that I’d missed those days. In the past, what would happen is I would ultimately end up giving up and either going back to my house or going to work… And that was a fragile mindset. That was a mindset that was focused on what other people thought. And with my mindset at that point in time being focused on what other people thought I was unable to produce the long-term results that I wanted.

That’s what I want to talk about here. Our mindset is so critical to the success we achieve. if our mindset is firm and determined and strong and willing to learn and willing to grow and willing to be uncomfortable in whatever area of life it is—that we’re working on—then we’re going to get the results we want. We may not be able to control the results but we can always control our actions! Consistent, positive, powerful actions will produce much greater and much better results. They will produce much greater results than sporadic actions or actions that are unfocused or actions that have no true passion and desire and power behind them. so what we’re going to talk about in this video series is how you can learn to master your mindset. How you can learn to take control of the mental game. So you can start being the true captain of your life and you can start getting the results that you want.

We Are Each 100% Accountable For our Reality

Share

We Are Each 100% Accountable for Our Perception of Reality

We are each 100% responsible for our experience of reality. Now, what does that mean?

We all have events happen to us in our lives. There are things that happen, these things may seem completely out of our control. Maybe these things happen because of someone else’s choices and actions. Maybe the things happen because of our choices and actions… Regardless of what happens or who’s “Responsible” for what happens, we get to choose the meaning we give the event. And the meaning we give events, is what creates the power of the events in our lives. The power of the events in our lives is what creates our reality.

The way we think about, feel about, and relate with the events that have happened in our lives is what shapes how we feel about, relate with, and react to events that happen in our future.

So if any of us are unhappy with the current state of our lives and the current state of reality as we know it, then the first place to start is asking ourselves, “What meaning do I routinely give events that are happening in my life? Do I give positive empowering meanings..? Or, do I look for thorns in the rosebush?”

I’m challenging you today to start looking for the roses. Start looking for the flowers and ignoring the weeds. Start finding the roses and realizing that the thorns… They may be there. But you still get to choose where you look!

2 Ways To Immediately Apply This In Your Life:

  1. Start by asking yourself questions that seek solutions instead of questions that misplace your power of personal accountability.
  2. Create the habit of looking for the positive in every situation.

Always Remember;

You Are the Master of Your Destiny!
