I Don’t Wanna…

Share

Do you ever find yourself thinking I Don’t Wanna… about something you know is good for you?

Have you woken up early to exercise, meditate, or write and thought, “I’ll just sleep for a few more minutes.”?

But what happens to those few minutes?

If you’re like me—and most people—those few minutes turn into an hour or so. Then the next day it’s easier to “sleep in” for a few minutes. Until, in a short period of time, you’ve set a new habit of sleeping in.

Why does that happen?

Here are some reasons:

  1. Humans like easy. And sleeping in is easy. Avoiding the resistance that accompanies growth is easy. But you know that easy rarely produces success.
  2. Listening to the little voice that says, “I don’t wanna…” gives it power. Like a child throwing a temper tantrum, it realizes you’re paying attention and screams louder each time.
  3. Habits are easier to create than most people realize. Even a slight change in your routine makes a difference. And it doesn’t matter which direction your routine changes. Your brain notices you’ve made a change. It watches what you do the next time too. Then it tallies what you show it is important and “helps” you get more of those results.

But these things can work in your favor too.

  1. When you find your true passion doing things that keep you on the path of success are far easier.
  2. Just as listening to the “I don’t wanna…” voice gives it power, redirecting your thoughts and doing whatever you must do instead, quiets the voice and lessens its influence.
  3. A habit that carries you on the road of success is just as easy to create as a habit that sends you to the ditch. Pick something small that you know is aligned with your dream and do it regularly. In no time you’ll have a habit that works for you instead of against you.

So the next time that little voice tries to talk you out of doing something that you know creates success in your life, you can say, “Thanks, but I’m doing it anyway.”

Get Back on The Horse.

Share

When Life Bucks You Off, Get Back on The Horse!

What do I mean? Imagine this:

You’re cruising through your day and something unexpected happens.

Wham!

What do you do?

Do you take it in stride?

Do you get sidetracked but find your way back on track?

Do you melt down?

Only you know the answer to this. But I suggest you “Get back on the horse.”

So, what does that mean?

Old time cowboys relied on their horses for almost everything. They were with them in every season, through different terrain, and almost every type of weather. In many ways the horse was not only an extension of the cowboy; it was the cowboy’s lifeline.

But Even the Best Cowboy got Knocked Off His Horse Sometimes.

What do you think happened then? Do you think the cowboy sat on the ground and cried or screamed about how unfair it was that he got knocked down?

Do you think he called it a day and went home?

Not on your life! He stood up, brushed himself off, and got back on his horse.

I suggest we follow this example in our lives. There will be days when things happen that interfere with your goals. When you have a day like that, just imagine you’re that old cowboy. Then pick yourself up, brush yourself up, and…

Get back on the horse.

Is the Law of Attraction Broken?

Share

Some people say the *Law of Attraction doesn’t work, or that it’s broken. (*Whatever you give your time, energy, and focus to you attract into your life.)

Case in point, I received an email a few days ago with the title, “Busted! Why the Law of Attraction Doesn’t Work…”

The first thing I thought was, “What rubbish! Of course the Law of Attraction works!”

Then it popped into my mind, “But only as hard as you do.”

You realize that many people spend time focusing on what they desire. But then they sit back and expect it to happen without doing anything to get it.

If that was how it worked anyone who has tried to manifest using the Law of Attraction would have everything they wanted.

But that’s not how it works. You have to do something, take action, move in the direction of what you desire. You can sit in the lotus posture all day long while focusing positive thoughts and emotions on the things you desire. And you’ll end up disappointed.

Or you can take the time to figure out what you desire, get clear on it subconsciously, focus on it with powerful positive emotions, AND Move Your Feet! Take Inspired Action!

That’s when miracles happen! That’s when your dreams and desires come true!

So stop with the excuses already. The Law of Attraction works. Use it. And then take regular action in the direction of your dream and watch the magic unfurl.

Perfection…

Share

What is Perfection?

We’ve all heard this saying about Perfection:

Practice makes perfect…

You may have also heard this twist:

Perfect practice makes perfect.

Or this one:

Imperfect practice makes perfect.

Now, all of these mean the same thing. That to improve at anything, you must work at it. But they each focus on different aspects.

The first is the simplest and is true…

To Improve at Anything You Must Do It.

The second is also true. But the person who said it was emphasizing the fact that you must strive for perfection as you practice; to perfect what you are practicing…

And, like the two previous, the third is also true. But this time the emphasis is that you shouldn’t expect yourself to be perfect while practicing something.

You Must Accept Your Imperfections As You Perfect Yourself.

Which is the most relevant to you and your Life?

Think about it.

Prepare for Success!

Share

Are You Prepared for Success?

The other morning I was on my way to a client’s when I thought I’d stop by a fast food joint for breakfast.

I drove by one of the “Big Two” national chains. There were about twenty cars in line. So I continued to the one across the street. There weren’t any cars there and I thought, “I’ll give them some business.” After all, they are a major chain and I like their food too.

I went inside.

The lobby was empty. I walked to the counter. No food in sight, not a morsel. There wasn’t even a person at the counter. Someone was in back washing dishes. She turned and looked at me, then went back to washing the dishes.

I waited…

A minute, two. No one came to the counter or acknowledged my presence. So I shrugged and left.

Then I drove to the Major Chain across the way and got my food in just a few minutes.

What’s my point in telling you this?

Expectation, Preparation, and Success.

The first restaurant obviously expected high traffic during peak breakfast hours, they prepared for it and I’m going to hallucinate that they had a financially successful morning. In fact, they are usually busy.

The other restaurant—though I’ve seen their chain going head to head with the other one in many cities—obviously didn’t expect to be busy. And they weren’t. They had—I imagine—a financially unsuccessful morning.

Perhaps this was a one-time event. Maybe some employees failed to report for their opening shift. Possibly, but I doubt it.

If it was a one-time event I think there would be a hustle of activity in the restaurant and cars would have been lined up expecting service. The fact that there were no cars outside and no cars in the drive through, not even a sign on the door saying, “Please be patient while we get ready to serve you!” indicates that local customers are trained to expect poor service during the morning rush.

I understand that it’s poor business to prepare more food than your projections show you’ll sell during a shift. But I also know that when you expect to have poor results, you will. And sometimes you have to take a leap of faith, expect big results and play to win!

So what do you think would happen if that restaurant started to expect business in the morning? What if they made sure they prepared a little more food than they expected to sell? What if they started to show their customers that going there was a good choice by having the customer service we expect from a major player in the fast food industry?

Do you think they’d start to get more business if they prepared for success?

I do!

Take a moment and ask yourself, “Is there anything I can do to prepare for success?”

Well…Is there?
