Sometimes I wonder why I write. Then I quickly realize it’s because I want to change the world, to have a positive impact of the lives of those I interact with.
Writing allows me to share with others, people I don’t even know, in an intimate way that is hard to achieve with strangers. Think about it. What would you say if a total stranger walked up to you and started talking about lessons they’d learned from life, about things that could possible help you on your path?
Would you be open to hearing what they had to say, even if it could change your life dramatically?
I imagine not. You’d probably glance at them sidelong and mentally shake your head. Then you’d wait for the polite moment to extract yourself from the encounter and avoid the person in the future.
But writing! Ah, writing is the act of creating a magical encounter between the author and the reader without personal invasion or discomfort. Writing allows me—or any other author—the ability to move people deeply, to reach them at levels they wouldn’t expose to a stranger. Writing allows authors to empower readers, entertain them, help them escape the dull hum of life; even help them discover their untapped potential.
My writing is an offering, my offering to you. You can read my work or not. You can choose who you let in your mind and what ideas you accept. Best of all; you can do all of this without concern of affront to the author and take the bits that work for you while discarding the rest.
So that’s why I write. I want to change the world. I want to make it a better place for my children and their children. I want to use the knowledge I’ve gained through my life and help others learn and grow, to help them avoid mistakes similar to those I’ve made—and believe me I’ve made my share. The only way I know how to do that is through doing, through writing. I hope to change the world by reaching one person at a time, changing one life at a time. That’s all I can do.
You Are The Master of Your Destiny!
