What Does “Get Your Mind Right & Your Body Will Follow” Really Mean

Share

Get Your Mind Right and Your Body Will Follow!

What does it mean to get your mind right and your body will follow?

Your unconscious mind, most people call it your subconscious mind, is the primary driver in your life. It’s the thing that controls 90% to 95% of your actions. Any time that you are unaware of what you’re doing, that you’re going by reflex…That’s your unconscious mind. Any time that you fail to get the results that you consciously want, and that you consciously know that you’re capable of, that’s also your unconscious mind.

Your Unconscious Mind is The Primary Driver in Your Life

So, when I say “Get Your Mind Right.” It means:

Do What You Need to Do to Get Your Unconscious Mind Aligned with Your Conscious Desire to Have Success in Any Given Area of Your Life.

When it comes to your health and fitness; once you get your unconscious mind aligned with your health and your fitness goals, you’re going to start seeing some amazing results. And you’re going to start seeing them really quickly. It may still take some time to get to where you want to be as your end goal or your primary objective at this moment, and getting your unconscious mind on-board will cut out the things like self-sabotage. It will cut out the negative thoughts you night have around your health and your fitness. It’ll cut out the beliefs that are failing to support your health and your fitness.

Get Your Mind Right - It's like Turbo Charging Your Mind!

Simply: It’s like turbo charging your mind when it comes to getting your health and your fitness to where you want it to be. So learn how to turbo charge your mind. Learn how to get your mind right and then your body will follow!

One of the best things you can do to start that is, every night as you’re drifting off to sleep, spend ten minutes visualizing yourself with your health and your fitness exactly how you want it to be. When I say visualizing yourself, what I mean specifically is; as you lay there, when you are relaxed and getting ready to go to sleep at night, you can imagine that you are seeing yourself—through your own eyes—in the condition and with the health that you want to have. See it through your own eyes. Hear everything. Feel everything. Be completely aware and involved in this exercise as you drift off to sleep. And just imagine yourself living your perfect day with your perfect health and your perfect fitness that you want.

Do this for ten to fifteen days. It might be a little hard at first but you’ll figure it out and it will get easier, and easier, and easier as you do it more and more.

So give this a try!

Every night; start visualizing yourself with your perfect health, your perfect fitness, living the perfect day that those allow you to have and watch what starts to happen.

Always remember. Get Your Mind Right and Your Body Will Follow!

When to Double Down on Your Health and Fitness

Share

Why You Must Double Down on Your Health and Fitness!

I was taking to a good friend just a few minutes ago about the times when we feel like taking it easy or the times we feel like taking a break. And that reminded me of when I used to do bodyweight exercises all the time because with bodyweight exercise especially, as with all exercises and truly all areas of life, you can workout every day, doing the same exercise, if you want too. The trick is, you adjust your intensity every day. Someone who runs can run every single day. There are days when it makes sense to run harder, to push yourself more and there are days when it makes sense to be easier and have a relaxed, healing kind of a run.

Same thing with working out. There are times when you can blitz the bodypart(s) you’re working and there are times when you can take it easier. I worked legs really hard and have jelly-legs as I record this video. The weak feeling that anyone who works out really hard knows, when you have to grip the handrail for dear life when walking down stairs to keep from falling.

When you feel like taking a break, it's time to double sown on your health and fitness!

After that workout I decided to go have some nature time. I’m out here enjoying this gorgeous scene and I was talking to my friend on the phone and we were talking about how sometimes people say they want to take it easy. Coaching clients will say, “I just need to take a break.”

That’s When You’ve Got to Double Down!

When you feel like you need to take a break, that’s when you’ve got to double down because pushing through the resistance, that’s what’s going to help you bust out to the next level!

Pushing through those times where you’re thinking, “I just really don’t feel like it.” Or, “I don’t want to do it.” Or whatever other excuse your mind throws out at you… Those are the times you’ve got to completely and totally double down on it! Get your butt going where you need to go! Get yourself doing what you need to do! Find a way to push through it!

And pushing through it can be taking it easy in the sense that you are working out more gently than you would otherwise but you’re still there! You’re still showing up!

Showing Up Makes a Massive Difference!

Showing up makes a massive difference because showing up tells your unconscious mind how important it is for you to do what you’re doing!

When you show up on the days when you feel like skipping or during the months that maybe you feel like skipping, when you show up now, more and more during those times, you’re programming your grey matter that that’s a non-negotiable. That you are going to go and do the work. That you’re going to put yourself in the situation. That you’re going to grow your way through it.

The people who are on the fitness yo-yo; those who go until they reach the edge of their comfort zone and then they stop exercising until they reach the bottom of their comfort zone—when they are fed up with their lack of fitness—and then they start getting in shape again… And on and on and on they go, bouncing within the walls of their comfort zone. They are always in that narrow window of growth.

To break through that window, to break through to the other side, to get the true success and the long-term health and fitness, you have got to push yourself to show up on the times when you feel like you want to take a break! Even showing up in a way that’s gentle on your body is still showing up.

Sometimes you just have to remember that doing something smaller is way more important than skipping. If it’s a scheduled day, if it’s a planned day, if you have a workout that you’re supposed to be doing, regardless of the type of workout, if it’s your day to workout and you feel like taking a break… I strongly suggest that you SHOW UP ANYWAY!

Why I’m Passionate About Helping You Create a Powerful Health and Fitness Mindset

Share

Why Am I Passionate About Your Health and Fitness Mindset?

You might wonder why I’m so passionate about helping you create the mindset necessary to have sustainable health, fitness, and a high quality of life? And how I can say so confidently that with the right mindset, you can certainly have your health, fitness, and quality of life exactly where you want them?

I used to weigh around 260+ lbs. The shape I was in used to be round. I went to a doctor one day and he said something that was really hard for me to hear. He told me I was grossly obese.

Have You Ever Been in Denial?

I thought, “What are you talking about? I was never grossly obese!” My idea of grossly obese was a lot different than what I looked like. But then I went home and I thought about it. And when I looked in the mirror, I realized that he was right. I was really overweight and it was very unhealthy. I had narrow sloping shoulders, a wide waist, a huge stomach, love handles that were so deep you could take a sharpie marker, put it in sideways, and the folds of fat would keep it in place…

I decided that I was unwilling to accept that from me. I was unwilling to be that person. I wanted to be healthy and strong again. When I was younger, in middle & high school, I was all about being strong and being healthy and somewhere along the line I’d lost sight of that aspect of myself. I’d lost the drive. I’d lost the internal feeling of what it was like to be heathy.

After the doctor told me that I was grossly obese I went and took a really long look in the mirror. And I decided I was unwilling to accept that from me anymore! I was only willing to accept the best from me with my health and fitness.

Over 15 years ago I was busy eating my way to somewhere around 260 lbs before I got it turned around

Then The Truth Sinks In

That was 15 years ago. Since then I’ve maintained really good shape, really good conditioning. There have been times when my weight crept back up a little bit because I was being distracted by life. But I never got back up over 210 lbs before I reigned it in and got things back into good shape.

6 months after adopting a health and fitness lifestyleThe original weight loss I did was from around 260 lbs down to 185 lbs in 6.5 or 7 months and for the most part I’ve kept it off since then.

This is about how to create that fitness mindset. The fitness mindset is what’s help me stay in much better shape ever since dropping all that old weight. If I had just said, “Oh! I’ve got to lose weight!” and that was the goal, then what happens when the weight is gone?

Where is the driving force, the long-term vision once the weight is gone? It goes away for most people because they’ve achieved the goal and then tend to relax. If I would have set a goal that I wanted to get down to a certain weight, then I don’t know what my long-term results would have been.

I Want to Have a Fitness Lifestyle!

But I never set a goal about the weight I wanted to be. Instead, I changed it to, “I want a fitness lifestyle.”

I want a healthy and fit lifestyle, was the change I made. That’s a very powerful change for you to make.

I’d like to help you learn how you can create a healthy and fit lifestyle, how you can start reaching the health and fitness goals that you’ve set for yourself that have seemed out of reach. Maybe you’ve been up and down with your health and fitness. Inconsistency comes from an unsupportive mindset. When you have a mindset that supports what you want, it’s much easier to achieve the results you desire.

You’ve heard people say, “I’ve got to get in my summer shape…”

Screw That! Get in great shape and stay there long-term by changing your mindset!

It’s okay for good shape to be different. We all have our opinions about what being in good shape means. Some people want to be really lean. Some people are okay with a little more bodyfat. Some people want to be really strong. Some value endurance over all other aspects. Some want to be muscular, lean, and strong. Whatever your idea of being in great shape is for you is perfect for you!

Just get on board with it. Get Your Head in the Game so you can start having long-term, lasting results. Get Your Mind Right to support your health and fitness so it will support your long-term health and fitness goals.

Having a healthy and fit mindset, a healthy and fit lifestyle will improve:

  • Your quality of life
  • How you feel about yourself emotionally
  • The results you get in your workplace
  • It will improve your performance in all areas of life

Start today to get into better shape, to become healthier and more fit, to get your mind onboard with your long-term success.

Start Thinking Lifestyle

Start thinking, “What lifestyle do I need to have so I can experience the health and fitness that I want?” And to make it even more powerful, ask yourself:

  • Why do I want to have this level of health and fitness?
  • Why do I want to experience this high quality of life?
  • What is it going to do for me to have this?

Find out why you want better health and fitness in your life. It all serves the purpose of helping you get in the shape and have the health that you want to have. So you can experience the high quality of life that you truly want and that you deserve!

Are You Getting What You Want from Your Health and Fitness Regimen?

Share

Are You As Healthy and Fit as You Want to Be?

Are you getting what you want from your health and fitness regimen?  Are your efforts paying off? Because if you’re not getting what you want… There are a couple of reasons why that happens.

There might be something you need to learn. Sometimes we can go out and we can be doing everything that we think we need to do—as far as exercising or eating right or getting the right time of day to exercise and the right nutrition. But we are working from old, outdated, or incorrect information.

Learn How To Have Lasting Success With Your Health and Fitness

For example: I used to think I had to eat every two hours, to keep my metabolism up. It wasn’t until about a year and a half ago that I learned that eating every two hours actually increases our bodies insulin spike and reduces hormones—like Testosterone and the HGH in my body—and so it actually works against what I’m trying to accomplish.

Some people have to eat a lot to maintain massive muscularity, for the average person this isn't necessary and can work against you.

Now, some guys like, Brian Shaw, Eddie Hall, Hafþór Björnsson… Those guys, they have to eat A Lot! We’re talking 12,000+ calories a day! They have to eat all the time. And they’re figuring out ways to work around what constant eating does to our body’s hormones. But for the average person, for the guy or girl who just wants to go to the gym, or go ride their mountain bike, or their street bike, or go hiking, or whatever the form of exercise is, eating every two hours can actually work against you.

The only reason I’m bringing that up is because that’s an example of a learning. I had to learn that for me, the best way to eat is to practice intermittent fasting. Winning The Mental Game of Fitness isn’t about preaching what type of diet you should do or how you should eat or how you should exercise…

Maybe there's something you need to learn so you can create lasting success in your health and fitness!

The point is, if there’s something that isn’t working quite right then maybe there’s something you need to learn. And once you learn what you need to learn, then you can move on because you’ll have surpassed that obstacle. You’ll Plow Through It! Go Over It! Go Around It! Whatever. You’ve got the information. You’ve got the knowledge now that will help you get better results.

Is What You’re Doing Working?

There might be something you need to unlearn. That’s another thing that can happen that keeps people from getting the results that they want. If you’re failing to get the results that you want… Maybe you learned something in the past, that made sense when you learned it but now, it ain’t workin. Maybe it never worked and you just didn’t know it because it’s what you knew and you were running with it. So, sometimes we have to unlearn things that weren’t working in the past or that aren’t working now… We need to unlearn them! So that we can then start getting the results that we want.

Perhaps you need to change your methods, change your approach completely. Sometimes you’ve got to throw it all out and start over. You know what? That’s okay! If that happens, you can do it! You just have to figure out, “Hey this ain’t workin!” “Whatever I’m doing is failing to get me the results I want. So maybe I need to try a completely different approach.”

I used to have a mindset, a belief, that I had to go to the gym for 2 or 3 hours at a time, that I had to go 6 days a week, that I had to go all out and be as big and as massive as I could possibly be. That worked great for me at the time. There came a point in my early 30’s when I got up to around 225lbs. I wasn’t really that lean but I was really strong and I was happy with it…

And then life kind of got in the way. And I kept eating the same amount that I’d been eating… But I quit going to the gym. And guess what? The next thing I knew I was somewhere around 260lbs. My shoulders had gone in. My stomach had gone out. I was like a beach-ball on legs!

On the way up to around 260 lbs

And I felt it was gross, that I looked and physically felt gross. Now I’m talking about me. Everyone is different and everyone is entitled to their feelings and opinions about their own bodies. Some people are perfectly happy and content looking that way. But I, personally, was really unhappy with that. And I got it turned around. I created a lifestyle of health and fitness that has served me well for going on 15 years now.

Getting Your Mind Right

This is about getting your mind right so you can make sure that what you want is truly for you instead of something that you adopted from somebody else, something you wanted for somebody else.

Originally, I went to bodyweight exercises and that worked great. I was able to use bodyweight exercises to shed all that unwanted fat, and all that extra weight, and get myself in really good shape again. I lost somewhere around 80 lbs. As you can understand I was usually the person behind the camera because of how I felt about my body. But I have a few photos of how I looked while I was in the process of putting on all that weight. I’ll add some of those and put in a picture of what I looked like when I initially lost that 80lbs…

6 months after adopting a health and fitness lifestyle

And I’ve kept it off, almost all of the weight off since then. I’ve been up and down a little bit but I’ve never come anywhere even close to that old weight because I’ve always had the health and fitness mindset, the health and fitness lifestyle in mind.

And let’s be real, sometimes on this path, we fail. Sometimes you start doing something and you just aren’t getting the results you want. And, you find yourself thinking, “WOW, that really sucks.” If that happens, then say, “Okay, it’s time to reset, re-calibrate, and move on!”

Pay Attention to Your Results

Look at what’s working and learn from failure. Learn how to allow yourself the privilege of failing. Because if you aren’t failing, you aren’t growing.

So try stuff. And when something is working, Great! Run with it. If something isn’t working, then adjust, recalibrate, move on. Try something different. There’s a wealth of information out there about exercises and diet and what time of day is best to exercise, and everything you need to know about that part. I’m telling you, you’ve got to learn how to fail! Because if you aren’t trying new things, then how can you learn, how can you grow?

You also need to expand your comfort zone. An example of what I’m talking about, is when I had a comfort zone that was: to work out you go to the gym—it has to be a gym—and you go for 2 to 3 hours a time and it’s gotta be 5 or 6 days a week…

I had such rigid requirements around what had to happen for me to “Work Out” that when something got in the way and things weren’t working how I wanted, then I felt like everything was just going to crap. And there were times, because I had a much weaker mindset back then, that I would just give up.

If I couldn’t work out the way that I thought I should work out, I would just give up. Well, that makes no sense! If something goes wrong, if you can’t work out the way you think you should work out, great! Do something different until you can get back to the way you want to do it.

Learn to Be Adaptable

Be adaptable. Be Fluid. Allow yourself to be like Bruce Lee says, “Be water, my friend.” Just flow with it. And allow yourself the freedom to have a health and a fitness lifestyle! So that you can start getting long term, lasting results.

That could be bodyweight exercises. That could be hard core strength training. That could be powerlifting. That could be CrossFit. That could be bodybuilding. Whatever it is for you is perfect for you. Just make sure that your mindset supports it so you can get the long-term results that you want! These things build over time. It’s long-term, incremental results, compounded that give you the benefits you’re looking for.

Be Gentle on Yourself in The Beginning

No one goes into the gym day 1, works out, and then says, “Hey I worked out for five hours! I’m so strong. Now I’m ready to go!” It doesn’t happen. You go to the gym and you work out for 5 hours when you haven’t been working out… You’re going to be so sore you can’t even move!

Funny Story. When I was in high school, I had a time when I went and I worked out with this guy and we did calves. And I hadn’t been doing calves the way that I should. And he just blitzed it! And I kept up with him the whole time. Then the next day, I woke up and I couldn’t straighten my legs. I was 6 inches shorter! And for about 2 weeks, I couldn’t straighten my legs at all. And when I was walking, I remember thinking, “Oh my gosh! This hurts so much!”

I had done so much damage, because I let my ego get in the way of what would have been the smart way to work out. So, if you’re new to working out and you’re working on getting the fitness lifestyle going, then be gentle on yourself while you build up the resistance. And in time you’ll be able to do more, and more, and more. You’ve just need to be gentle at the beginning and allow yourself the room to actually grow into it. You’ll be far more productive in the long run.

Work out. That's Awesome! Make sure you add movement to your day. Make exercise a priority!

To start creating a Health and Fitness Lifestyle, You Can Start Thinking:

  • “How can I expand my comfort zone?”
  • “How can I allow myself to look for ways to be healthy?”
  • “How can I add movement to my day?”
  • “How can I look for and find ways to increase what I consider to be exercise?”

Because in the end, it’s all about movement. It’s all about how much you’re using your body in an intelligent way.

You can be very healthy, very fit, without ever actually going into a gym.

You can work out at your house. You can work out in nature. A lot of people, it’s really popular right now for people to go to parks and work out on jungle gyms and stuff. That’s Awesome! Do it wherever you need to do it.

If you think that you don’t have time to workout… I’ll argue that all day long with you.

How many people sit down, in front of a tv show, or in front of Netflix, or Hulu, or YouTube, or Facebook live videos, or whatever it is that they’re watching. How many times do people sit down and binge-watch? Or just watch whatever instead of doing something productive?

It’s easy to pause something for 10 minutes. Pause your show for 10 minutes. Do a set of jumping jacks. Come back and watch the show. Pause the show. Do some pushups. Come back and watch the show. Give yourself the reward of watching the show After You Work Out! Find ways to make working out fun.

It’s all about creating the lifestyle of health and fitness because that’s where you are going to get the lasting results that you’re looking for!
