Does Your Mind-Body Connection Matter?

Share

How Does Your Mind Body Connection Matter?

Many people are really disconnected with what’s going on with their body, especially when going to the gym. The problem with that is, if you’re unaware of what’s going on with your body, how can you know what your body is trying to tell you?

Your Body Speaks to You

Your body is trying to give you messages all the time; about what it needs, what you can do for it, how it can serve you, and how you can better serve it.

When it comes to understanding the mind-body connection, one of the best ways you can start developing that is through daily meditation.

The power of meditation

To meditate: Pick a comfortable spot. Sit down and relax. Close your eyes and begin paying attention to your breath. Feel it as you breathe in deeply. Feel tension leave your body as you exhale slowly. Keep repeating this process. As you’re relaxing you can use a mantra. One of my favorites is RAM, pronounced “rum”.  As you inhale, think or say, “RAM” and as you exhale, think or say, “RAM”. Keep doing this as you relax more and more.

As you are doing this, feel your energy and attention go to your feet. Notice your feet. Feel them. Feel the pulse in your feet. Feel your socks, if you’re wearing them. Feel your shoes, if you’re wearing them. Feel the floor under your feet. Notice all the sensations around your feet.

Then shift your attention up to your calves and shins. Allow yourself to notice everything going on in and with that area of your body. Feel the clothing or the air or the furniture, against your skin. Notice, are they warm or are they cool? Are they feeling relaxed? Are they feeling energized? Allow yourself to notice these things. Really let the energy come into your awareness.

Do this with your whole body. Shift your attention up into your quads and hamstrings, then into your glutes, and into your lower back. Spend a few seconds at each area allowing yourself to really feel and connect with that part of your body. Then move to your abdomen, your chest, your back, your arms, your hands, and finally up into your face and head. Go through the whole process every time you meditate, noticing and connecting with every part or your body.

As you do this over a couple of weeks, you’ll begin to start to develop an awareness of what’s really going on in your body. Developing your body awareness through meditation will allow the awareness to carry into your day-to-day life.

While sitting, watching a video or reading this or just relaxing, you can place your energy on your hand. You might feel your hand tingling. You can notice your pulse beating in your hand. You might notice your hand growing warmer. You can just notice these things.

Focus your attention on the muscle being worked

You can also practice while you’re at the gym by placing your attention on the muscle group your working. If you’re doing a curl, you can notice the tension on your biceps. Really feel your biceps contracting. Focus your attention on making your biceps contract as hard as you can at the top of the movement. Allow yourself to put your mind in the muscle. The more you do this, the more you can really control where you’re expending your energy the most.

Regardless of your sport or your choice of exercise, you can learn to place your attention on the group of muscles that are required to properly execute movements for optimal results.

As you learn to do this more and more, you’ll begin to develop the ability to know what your body is telling you it needs. Your body will communicate if it needs more rest and recovery, if it needs more nutrition, even if it wants you to exercise harder than you have been. You’ll learn how to know what your body is telling you and what it needs.

Your mind controls everything about your body and your life. If you’re failing to get the results that you want, it’s because there’s something in your thinking that needs to be fine-tuned.

I Don’t Have Time to Work Out!

Share

Have You Ever Thought You Don’t Have Enough Time to Work Out?

I used to too! There were points in my life when I was so busy that I thought there was no way I could ever work out. Then I changed my thinking and now finding time to exercise is easy!

Do you ever feel like you have no time to exercise?

Do you ever find yourself feeling like you have no time to exercise? That there’s too much to be done, you’ve got deadlines, things you’ve got to get done, people expecting things done at certain times? And you don’t know how you can get everything done in your time-frame. Let alone take a few minutes here and there to take care of yourself.

There’s a huge problem with that thinking!

You’ve got to take care of yourself. And you’ve got to start taking care of yourself now because when you stop taking care of yourself physically, your body begins falling apart. If you’re failing to take care of your body, you’re cheating yourself out of both a high quality of life and the energy to do the things you want and need to do.

There is a direct correlation between how well you take care of yourself and how much energy you have to be a high achiever, to be productive, to accomplish the things you want to accomplish, and to do all the things you want to do. Because of that, the only way to enjoy a high quality of life and high energy levels is to take care of your body.

There's a direct correlation between how well you take care of yourself and how much energy you have

If you ever find yourself thinking that there’s just not enough time to work out, then remember that working out doesn’t have to be going to the gym for 60 or 90 minutes. Working out doesn’t have to be done during a set time frame.

If you’re at a place in your life or with your career, where it’s really hard to find that time. Then I recommend finding ways to steal little blocks of time throughout the day where you can get some exercise in. You can do a quick set of push-ups, a set of crunches, even a set of body weight squats. If you have the will you will find a way. I used to do pull-ups on the bar between the stalls in the public restroom where I worked. Was that ideal? No! But I was determined and it was much better than doing nothing. Then I bought my own pull-up stand and put it in my office where I could do pull-ups when I had 5 to 10 minutes to spare, usually 4 times a day.

The Real Question is, “How Much Do You Want to Be Healthy?”

Think about it. How much do you want to be fit? How badly do you want the high quality of life that only comes from taking care of yourself physically, from treating your body respectfully? Your body was designed to be in motion. The human body was never designed to be sedentary. That’s how bodies start falling apart.

What are you doing about it?

If you feel like you haven’t the time to work out, then I challenge you to find 5 minutes, 3 or 4 times a day, where you can do something quick and intense. This will help you start having the health and fitness that you deserve in your life. It will allow you to start having the high quality of life that you certainly deserve!

When to Double Down on Your Health and Fitness

Share

Why You Must Double Down on Your Health and Fitness!

I was taking to a good friend just a few minutes ago about the times when we feel like taking it easy or the times we feel like taking a break. And that reminded me of when I used to do bodyweight exercises all the time because with bodyweight exercise especially, as with all exercises and truly all areas of life, you can workout every day, doing the same exercise, if you want too. The trick is, you adjust your intensity every day. Someone who runs can run every single day. There are days when it makes sense to run harder, to push yourself more and there are days when it makes sense to be easier and have a relaxed, healing kind of a run.

Same thing with working out. There are times when you can blitz the bodypart(s) you’re working and there are times when you can take it easier. I worked legs really hard and have jelly-legs as I record this video. The weak feeling that anyone who works out really hard knows, when you have to grip the handrail for dear life when walking down stairs to keep from falling.

When you feel like taking a break, it's time to double sown on your health and fitness!

After that workout I decided to go have some nature time. I’m out here enjoying this gorgeous scene and I was talking to my friend on the phone and we were talking about how sometimes people say they want to take it easy. Coaching clients will say, “I just need to take a break.”

That’s When You’ve Got to Double Down!

When you feel like you need to take a break, that’s when you’ve got to double down because pushing through the resistance, that’s what’s going to help you bust out to the next level!

Pushing through those times where you’re thinking, “I just really don’t feel like it.” Or, “I don’t want to do it.” Or whatever other excuse your mind throws out at you… Those are the times you’ve got to completely and totally double down on it! Get your butt going where you need to go! Get yourself doing what you need to do! Find a way to push through it!

And pushing through it can be taking it easy in the sense that you are working out more gently than you would otherwise but you’re still there! You’re still showing up!

Showing Up Makes a Massive Difference!

Showing up makes a massive difference because showing up tells your unconscious mind how important it is for you to do what you’re doing!

When you show up on the days when you feel like skipping or during the months that maybe you feel like skipping, when you show up now, more and more during those times, you’re programming your grey matter that that’s a non-negotiable. That you are going to go and do the work. That you’re going to put yourself in the situation. That you’re going to grow your way through it.

The people who are on the fitness yo-yo; those who go until they reach the edge of their comfort zone and then they stop exercising until they reach the bottom of their comfort zone—when they are fed up with their lack of fitness—and then they start getting in shape again… And on and on and on they go, bouncing within the walls of their comfort zone. They are always in that narrow window of growth.

To break through that window, to break through to the other side, to get the true success and the long-term health and fitness, you have got to push yourself to show up on the times when you feel like you want to take a break! Even showing up in a way that’s gentle on your body is still showing up.

Sometimes you just have to remember that doing something smaller is way more important than skipping. If it’s a scheduled day, if it’s a planned day, if you have a workout that you’re supposed to be doing, regardless of the type of workout, if it’s your day to workout and you feel like taking a break… I strongly suggest that you SHOW UP ANYWAY!

Does Your Mindset Support Your Health and Fitness Goals

Share

How Powerful is Your Mindset With Your Health and Fitness?

If your mindset supports your health and fitness goals, then you’ll be much more successful. When a person believes and their mindset supports having a healthy and fit quality of life, a healthy and fit lifestyle, then they’ll have much better results than people who unconsciously believe the opposite about themselves, but are trying to force it or trying to figure out a way to fool the system.

There are no shortcuts to being healthy and fit

There are no shortcuts to having a healthy and a fit lifestyle.

When you believe that you do have a healthy and fit lifestyle, then you will start having the benefits of it long term now.

For those other people, who want to believe whatever else and pretend they’re healthy and fit, eventually it will unravel because until their mindset supports a healthy and fit lifestyle, they will struggle experiencing lasting results

Let’s work together and help you learn how to create the mindset and healthy and fit lifestyle you need to get the long-term results you want now. The long term, lasting results, the ability to have the high quality of life that only comes from your healthy and fit lifestyle.

The human mind is extremely powerful

The Human Mind is Extremely Powerful!

Think about how powerful your mind is. There are many cases where people have healed themselves through humor, by changing their diet, even by spontaneous remission. These things happen. That’s because of the power of the brain. So put the power of your brain on your side when it comes to your health and fitness!

Why wouldn’t you? Get your brain onboard! Get your mind right to support your health and fitness goals. And be very careful what beliefs you accept from others about your ability to achieve what you want.

You Can Do It!

You can achieve what you want! Believe it Now!

Be very careful what beliefs you accept from others

Be very careful what beliefs you accept from others about your health, your fitness, and your capabilities. Be very careful what beliefs you accept from yourself about those things. You can choose whether of not you believe your thoughts. A thought is just a thought. What gives it power is the action you take on it.

If you have thoughts that are unsupportive of your health and your fitness, that can be a thing of the past, wasn’t it? Those old thoughts can jut be done now. Now you can start having thoughts that support your health and your fitness, ongoing, long term, can’t you? Right? Of course, you can now… because those old thoughts have vanished!

Start having the thoughts, now, that support your health and fitness. Catch yourself having good thoughts, empowering thoughts, powerful thoughts that get you where you want to be.

Take that step now. Start discovering how many good, supporting, empowering, and powerful thoughts you have every day now that totally support your health and fitness mindset and lifestyle.

The Power of Forgiveness

Share

Why is Forgiveness so Powerful?

First, let’s clear up some common misconceptions about forgiveness. There seems to be a belief—at least in western society—that forgiveness means you’re saying that, “Whatever happened is okay.”

That is the farthest thing from the truth. Forgiveness simply means that you are letting go of the pain that you’ve been holding onto because of whatever it was that happened.

Forgiveness means letting go of the pain

Let’s clear that up first. You can forgive someone else or even yourself without necessarily saying that whatever happened was okay because maybe it wasn’t okay. Maybe it will never be okay. That happens. And if that’s the case, fine. Forgiving yourself or them might never make it okay.

Forgive Anyway Because Forgiving is Just Letting Go.

Let’s get really clear on that. Forgiving means letting go of the pain that you’ve been holding onto because of whatever happened in the past.

When you let go of that pain, you’ll be able to start enjoying life again. You’ll be able to start feeling better about yourself because forgiveness also means taking your life and your power back!

Forgiveness gives you the power to take control of your life

When you’re holding onto pain or anger or hate or whatever-it-is because of something that happened, then you’re giving up a part of your life to that event or that other person. You’re giving them control over you. You’re giving them control over what you’re doing, what you’re thinking, how you’re feeling…

We’ve all seen the people who go through life as bitter, hollow shells of themselves because of something that happened.

That’s a Choice. You can Let Go of the Pain.

There are also people you’ve seen who had something really horrible happen and they let it go and they go on to live normal, healthy, happy, productive lives because they let it go.

Forgiveness gives you the power to take back control of your life. Imagine that whatever happened is an anchor on the end of a massive chain and it’s holding you back. When you forgive, you cut the chain! Thus freeing yourself up to start moving again now, to start being a part of life now, to start loving and caring fully now, to start being vulnerable again now, to start allowing yourself to experience the full beauty of life now.

When you forgive, you cut the chains of the old negative emotions you were holding onto. You Let It Go Now and take your power back!

Forgiveness also allows you to take back the energy that was expended in staying in that angry, hurtful, hateful, whatever-it-was state. It takes energy to stay there. Forgiveness allows you to take that energy back and instead of using it to maintain that old state, it allows you to take that energy back and start using it in a more productive way in your life. It allows you to move forward, to break free! It allows you to start living again!

Forgiving Ourselves

Sometimes the person we have to forgive most is ourselves. When that’s the case… Do It. Learn what you need to learn so you’ll never repeat whatever-it-was that happened and move on, because you can’t take anything back. You can’t undo something you did. Someone else can’t undo something that they did. Things that have happened, have happened. The difference is going to be what meaning are you giving it.

When you forgive, you can start using whatever-it-was that happened, whether it was you or someone else who did it or whether it was an act of God or act of nature—horrible things sometimes happen that are completely random—for your good. When you forgive and you change the meaning, then you’re able to move more easily and effortlessly through life.

If you’re wondering how you can start? You can start by asking yourself questions like these:

“What can I learn from what happened?”

“What can I take from that that can be positive, that can help me be a better person?”

“What can I take from that that can help me help others?”

“How can I use whatever-it-was that happened to help me be a force for good in this world?”

Start asking yourself better questions and Cut Those Chains! Forgive so you can more easily and effortlessly move on with your life.

Always Remember:

You Are the Master of Your Destiny!
