Subconscious Beliefs

How Your Unconscious Mind Controls Your Health and Fitness

Share

Do You Know How Your Unconscious Mind Shapes Your Health and Fitness?

Your unconscious mind is massively important when it comes to what’s going on in your life, especially what’s going on when it comes to your health and fitness. Your unconscious mind is quite literally the storehouse for all the beliefs you’ve ever created, adopted, inherited, etc. throughout your life.

If any of those beliefs fail to serve you, then you’re going to struggle in that area of life. If any of those beliefs are disempowering about your health and fitness, then your results will match your beliefs more than they will ever match your desires.

What do you do about that? How do you get your results to start matching your desires?

You Want Your Results to Match Your Desires? Change Your Beliefs!

The Way You Get Your Results to Start Matching Your Desires is to Change Your Unconscious Beliefs

Your beliefs control your actions. They control your results. Your beliefs control what you see, what you hear, what you think. Two people can walk away from the same situation with vastly different interpretations (or personal meanings about the event). This happens all the time.

For example. I was watching a show once where they were demonstrating how the way a question is phrased influences the belief of the person responding to the question. They set it up by having a car run a stop sign and T-bone another car. They had a police officer there asking the witnesses what they saw happen. The officer asked half of the people, “How fast was the car was going when it slammed into the other car?” The other half of the witnesses were asked, “What speed was the car going when it hit the parked car?”

The people who were asked how fast the car was going when it slammed into the other car, gave answers that were 10 to 15 mph higher than the other group because the words “Fast” and “Slammed” influenced their unconscious minds to believe the car was traveling at a higher rate of speed. While the question, “What speed was the car traveling when it hit the parked car?” was more neutral and let them more fairly judge what speed the car was traveling.

That’s the same type of thing you’ll get when your beliefs match up with what your desires are, you’ll get results that match what you want because you’ll believe it’s possible and your unconscious mind will work to make your beliefs match your reality. When your beliefs are different than your desires, then your results are going to be different than what you want.

In the book, “The Ten Seeds of Greatness.” By Denis Waitley, there is a section that talks about the power of the mind. They hypnotized some very strong men—weightlifters, powerlifters, etc.—and they gave them the suggestion that a book, that was lying on the floor, weighed 5lbs more than the maximum each man could lift. When the men were brought out of hypnosis, they tried and tried to lift the book but couldn’t pick it up. They also measured the muscle contractions and found that the opposing muscle groups were resisting the attempts to lift the book with about 5lbs more force than the muscles being used to try to lift the book.

That’s an example of the unconscious mind making a belief reality.

So, if your unconscious mind believes that you are healthy and fit, then your unconscious mind will help you create the long term results necessary to experience health and fitness in your life!

When your unconscious minds believes that you are healthy and fit, it will work to make it reality!

If your unconscious mind believes otherwise…that’s when the other results come in. And if you wonder what your unconscious mind currently believes, just look at the results you’re getting. Are you becoming healthier and more fit every day or are you either stagnate or worse, sliding the other way?

If you’re currently getting results that are less than what you want with your health and fitness, it’s because some belief in your unconscious mind is counter to what you’re working to accomplish.

How do You Change The Beliefs That are Failing to Serve You?

You can start by taking about 10 minutes before you go to sleep at night and visualize yourself with the health and fitness that you want. Visualize it as if it is already true. Allow yourself to feel how wonderful it feels to have that level of health and fitness in your life. Allow yourself to play out a scene where you play out all of the wonderful things that come from having that degree of health and fitness.

As you do this more and more, your unconscious mind will start to believe that this is what’s going on and it will start doing everything in its considerable power to bring those results to pass.

Starting today, figure out where you want to be and as you’re drifting off to sleep, paint that perfect picture, that vision in your mind, as you’re drifting off, of what it’s like to have the health, the fitness, the results that you want and to have them now. Start doing this, every night as you’re drifting off to sleep. Make sure you’re thinking in totally positive terms, as you’re feeling it, experiencing it, playing it out in your mind as if it is already true now.

Do this for 30 days and watch what happens!

Careful…Your Subconscious Beliefs are Showing!

Share

Your Subconscious Beliefs are Below the Surface but they affect you life! How do your Subconscious Beliefs affect your life?

I remember one time when I was seventeen; I was hiking in the mountains with a few friends. We walked up a steep hill and I had to stop every twenty feet or so to catch my breath.

My friends teased me because I was lean and muscular and looked like I was in great shape on the outside. The problem was I had no endurance because I’d trained my body with low reps, heavy weight, and lots of rest between sets.

That’s ok if all you want is large muscles. But it’s a poor combination for overall fitness.

And to make it worse I smoked, chewed tobacco, and drank tons of coffee and soda.

Basically I was the poster child for how to abuse your body but still look like you’re fit.

I didn’t understand that my body had to last my entire life. I know, it sounds silly. But I was guilty of the same immortality complex that many youth have.

The problem wasn’t with my workout routine or my habits though. They were problems. But they weren’t “The Problem”.

The Problem was with my Subconscious Beliefs about being “In Shape” and with my Subconscious Beliefs about what “Physically Fit” meant. In my Subconscious Mind I believed that physical fitness was all about how good I looked without a shirt. Forget whole body fitness or cardiovascular work! My subconscious belief system didn’t include anything about functional fitness or bodyweight exercises either. I believed that pumping cold, hard iron was the only way to build muscle.

So what happened?

By the time I was in my early thirties I’d ballooned to 230lbs. of jiggling, unsightly FAT! Forget taking my shirt off in public. I was even embarrassed for my wife to see me without my shirt!

And then came the day that a doctor told me I was, “Grossly Obese…” I didn’t think that was fair because I only weighed 235lbs. And by society’s standards I was overweight but not obese! But the doctor was talking about a medical point of view and according to the body mass index I was “Grossly Obese.” Besides, at just over 5ft 9in tall, 235lbs. of non-muscled mass is unsightly and very unhealthy.

I listened to the doctor and decided I had to do something about my weight and overall health. But I’d tried working out during the years since high school and it always seemed to end the same way. I’d decide to “Get In Shape” and start going to the gym. Then I’d work out like a maniac for 2 to 2.5 hours a day 6 days a week.

That might work when you’re young and single but for a married dad it’s problematic to maintain that kind of schedule. But as you understand, that was my Subconscious Mind’s Beliefs about fitness manifesting!

So to keep from taking time away from my family I’d exercise first thing in the morning before I went to work.  But, as you imagine, I never kept that up for long. I’d usually make it about 6 months—just long enough to see a real difference in my physique before burning out and starting to miss workouts. And once I started missing workouts I’d miss more and more until I wasn’t working out at all.

And the cycle went round and round.

Something clicked after that doctor told me I was “Grossly Obese” though. I realized I’d better change my method because my method obviously wasn’t working.

A few days later I had an epiphany. I decided I’d stop trying to “Get In Shape” and start trying to live a fitness lifestyle instead. That was a massive subconscious shift. I stopped worrying about how much weight I could bench press or squat and started to focus on being healthy. I decided to make healthy choices and have functional fitness. I started training with bodyweight exercises, which exercise muscle groups instead of specific muscles. That was another tremendous shift for my Subconscious Mind.

As you realize, I’d dramatically changed my subconscious mind’s beliefs about what fitness is. The power in my new Subconscious Beliefs gave me lasting purpose and helped me develop a fitness lifestyle instead of bouncing from one a temporary fitness goal to another.

The end result of my new subconscious beliefs was that I went from 235lbs to 175lbs within six months! And the best part is that since then—nearly 7 years ago now—I’ve stayed healthy and fit and kept exercising on a regular basis because overall health and fitness is now my lifestyle!
