Victim Mentality vs. Success Mentality

Why You Must Ask Better Questions

Share

Let’s Talk About The Questions You’re Asking Yourself.

What kind of questions do you ask yourself when something goes differently than how you wanted?

If something works out poorly or something random happens that really kind of sucks… What do you ask about it? What do you think? What are you doing with the event? What kind of questions are you asking?

That can make or break you as far as the results you’re getting from life!

I used to ask some horrible questions. And I mean, HORRIBLE QUESTIONS! I would ask things like, “Why me?”

“Why does this happen to me?”

You know what? There’s nothing good that comes from a question like that.

“Why does this always happen?” Is another favorite that people ask. And you know what? It’s a crap question!

So, “Why me?”, “Why does this happen to me?” Let’s replace questions like that.

Ask Better Questions

Any question that puts you in a victim mindset, needs to be gotten rid of.

Start asking yourself questions like:

  • “What else could this mean?”
  • “How can I use this to make myself a better person?”
  • “How can I use this to actively improve the lives of others?”
  • “What’s the good in this?”
  • “What’s the positive message here?”

You may or may not have heard about the motorcycle accident I had going on 7 years ago now. I was pulling onto the freeway, going about 55mph when I got sideswiped by a minivan. About 150ft of tumbling down the freeway later, laying there, once I figured out that I was in one piece and that I was still alive… The very first question that I asked was, “I wonder what the lesson in this is and I wonder who it’s for?”

And because I had trained myself to think that way, and to ask those kind of questions when stuff happens, what could have been an absolutely horrendous event turned into just something that happened.

Yeah, it sucked! I was beat up. I hurt for weeks afterward. But you know what? I was ok. I was alive. I could think. I had all my mental faculties. My body, except for a couple of minor inconveniences, was really okay.

I remember it like it was yesterday

If I would have asked different questions, then who knows what would have happened. I guarantee it wouldn’t have been the positive outcome that’s come from it. I use that as a teaching tool. I use it as a way to help people understand how powerful they are, how powerful their minds are and how powerful their outlook on life is.

What kind of questions do you ask yourself? When something happens that goes differently than what you want, are you asking yourself questions that have you thinking in a victim mindset or—and this is what I highly recommend—are you asking yourself questions that get you thinking about things like:

  •  “What’s the good in this?”
  • “How can I use this to help others?”
  • “How can I use this to make my life better?”
  • “What’s the lesson in here?”
  • “How can this be something that I can turn into a positive influence in my life?”

Questions like that, they’re going to get you firmly onto the path of mastering your mindset.

And always remember:

You Are The Master of Your Destiny!

What is Personal Accountability and Why Does it Matter?

Share

Personal Accountability

What is Personal Accountability?

This seems easy enough to answer. Many people think of personal accountability as accepting responsibility for the things you do. Some tend to narrow it more by thinking personal accountability is related only to things that they or others do wrong—being accountable for one’s mistakes. But it’s more than that. Much, much more.

Personal Accountability is Freedom!

Let me explain why.

Personal accountability means accepting responsibility for your life, Your Whole Life. This might seem extreme. It might make you uncomfortable and set off alarms in your mind. After all, haven’t things been done to you by others? Hasn’t life thrown you a few curveballs, maybe even blindsided you a time or two? Haven’t things happened to you that were outside your control?

The answer to these questions is undoubtedly “Yes!”

So how are you accountable for those things? And doesn’t that mean you can’t be accountable for your whole life?

The answer is, of course you aren’t responsible for what others, life, or nature do to you. You have no control over others. You have no control over nature or the weather or random acts of chaos. And yet you are still accountable for your whole life because you have the power of choice! You choose what these events mean to you.

Your actions related to any event—or series of events—are based on the meaning you’ve assigned. If someone hurt you and you decided to never be a victim again because of that, then that’s the meaning you’ve given the event. Your actions are going to be very different from the person who was hurt and decided to never trust anyone again. If you survived a severe accident and that gave you a new appreciation for life, your actions are going to different from the person who survived a similar tragedy and now lives in fear.

Why Does Personal Accountability Matter?

Through choosing the meaning of things that happen to you, by being accountable for your life, you create your future.

Okay. That’s great. But how does personal accountability equal freedom?

I’m glad you asked!

Understanding that your choices create your future–and that the meaning you give events impacts your actions—allows you to realize that no matter what happens, you get to choose what you’re going to do with it.

You get to choose. You choose your thoughts. You choose the meaning. You choose your actions. You choose the path of your future. No one can ever take away your power of choice!

That’s Freedom!

If there’s something in your past or present that’s bothering you, try asking yourself these two questions:

“What else could this mean?”

“What good can come from this?”

Be honest with yourself when asking these and open yourself to possibilities you hadn’t considered before. You can even write down your answers. I’ve found that helps in examining all the possibilities.

These questions allow you to re-frame the thing that bothers you.

For example: I was at a movie with my wife and daughter last night. The person behind me kept accidentally bumping the back of my seat. I could have chosen to feel angry or cheated at these interruptions to the flow of the experience. I might have confronted the person behind me and asked them to stop. But I could tell it wasn’t deliberate. So instead of introducing conflict, I chose to use it as a chance to improve my patience.

The movie was wonderful. I enjoyed it much more than I would have if I’d chosen to feel angry. And I grew as a person. That’s a win-win! Learn more about how you can feel, hear, and see the benefits of Personal Accountability in your life! Visit 180-U.com today.

What Sings to Your Soul?

Share

What Sings to Your Soul?

What sings to your soul?

Do you know the gift God gave you to share with the world? It might be the ability to lift some-one’s day when they’re down. Perhaps it’s creating music that touches people deep in their hearts or penning words that mend hearts and create bridges of healing over pain…

Whatever it is, when you find it, nurture it, believe in it, and share it. Things we hoard never produce joy. But the smallest planted seed can, in time, produce a forest or a meadow full of flowers.

Share your gifts. In sharing you grow.

I used to think life was about the destination. I hurried to get where I thought I must be. Living that way wasn’t living. The days blurred past with no meaning.
I’m no longer in a hurry to reach tomorrow.

Yes, there are things I’d love to change about today, but I live each day as it comes. I experience each day. The days of my life are no longer merely stepping stones to the future, they are life! The point of any journey is who we become and what we learn while traveling it.

Infinite possibility lies before us.

I believe in you!

Excerpt From The Pi of Life

What Does it Mean?

When you discover the things that sing to your soul, you’ve discovered the keys to your purpose, your path. The things that fill you with joy, that you’d do just because you love them, are your gifts. Explore them and ask how you can use them to help others. Doing this ignites creativity and passion in ways that will astound you.

The gifts we’re given aren’t meant for hoarding. They are meant to be shared, to help others, and to make the world a better place.

As you approach this moment, this gift of time, make the choice to share your gifts. Not all will appreciate them. Not all will care. Some might even call you crazy.

So What? Do what you do from a place of love and ignore those who don’t understand.

I challenge you today to start using your gifts to help others. If you don’t know what your gifts are then you can download my Discover Your Passion worksheet, figure out what they are, and then start using them!

Never Argue for Your Weakness

Share

I Will Persist! I Will Succeed!

You Should Never Argue for Your Weakness

Has someone ever told you about a weakness they have, something they can’t do, or problems they’re having, and then they go on to explain all the reasons they either can’t change these things or have no control over them?

Have you ever done this yourself?

It’s something I call arguing for your weakness. It’s an unhealthy habit and quickly sabotages your success.

Why?

When a person starts telling others why they can’t do something, change something, or why they have no control over a situation, they’re coming from a place of victimhood. They’re focusing on and reinforcing the negative aspects of situations and life. They’re also forgetting that no matter what, they always have control of the meaning they give an event. And worse, they’re nearly guaranteeing that things will never change for them—at least in that area of their life.

Understand that we all have something about ourselves that we’d like to change or something about our lives that we’d like to change. It might be something big, something that would dramatically improve our lives—if we just made the shift. It might be a little thing that no one but us would really notice. But it’s there. And we know it.

We can approach these a few ways. When we look at these things, we can choose to see the parts that upset us. Or we can listen to the lessons, the things we can learn from the situation. We can also understand the inherent good and seek understanding of that.

What Can You Do?

The next time you discover yourself telling someone—or yourself—all the reasons you can’t do something, why something you dislike is “Just the way it is”, or why you have no control over any situation… STOP IT!

Stop Complaining!

You Always Have Control Over the Meaning You Give Events.

You Always Have a Choice How You Respond.

It’s Your Life.

You Choose Your Path.

Get out there and Master Your Destiny!
